How I Use Ginger Every Day: Travel, Smoothies & Wellness

My father, Frank "Jake" Jacobson, grew up on a farm near Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

He was a man well-versed in country things and seemed to have practical advice for almost everything. Whether it was poison ivy, sunburn, an upset stomach, or simply feeling run down, Jake always had a suggestion, a story, or a natural remedy worth considering.

Perhaps he had to.

Over the course of his life, he traveled extensively and experienced just about everything the world could throw at him.

One thing remained remarkably consistent wherever he went:

He almost always kept ginger nearby

 

Jake's Life in Mexico

My parents, Jake and Betty, spent nearly twenty years living in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

The locals affectionately called him "Papa Blanco."

He was easy to spot.

A wide-brimmed straw hat.

A black polo shirt.

Khaki pants.

Well-worn Clark walking shoes.

If he wasn't driving his little white Volkswagen, he was usually walking the hills above town to a place he loved called "Three Crosses."

And more often than not, ginger was part of the journey

 

My Travel Habit: Ginger on the Road

I've inherited many of my father's habits.

One of them is taking ginger with me whenever I travel.

When I can't easily pack bottles of Jake's StrongGinger, I'll often stop at a local organic grocery store and buy fresh ginger root.

I wash it, cut it into small pieces, and keep it in a bag throughout the day.

I know that may sound unusual.

But it's become part of my routine.

For me, ginger is one of those simple daily habits that helps me feel my best whether I'm at home, traveling, hiking, or exploring someplace new

 

Why Ginger Has Been Part of My Routine for Years

For centuries, ginger has been appreciated in wellness traditions around the world.

My Favorite Ginger Smoothie Recipe

One of the easiest ways I enjoy ginger every day is in a morning smoothie.

My wife, Ann Marie, makes a large batch that lasts throughout the day.

Our typical recipe includes:

  • 2–3 bananas
  • Blueberries
  • Greek yogurt
  • Flaxseed
  • Organic protein powder
  • 16–20 ounces of Jake's StrongGinger

The recipe makes about five smoothies.

We usually enjoy two immediately and save the rest for later.

It's simple, satisfying, and a great way to start the day

 

Small Habits Create Lasting Results

One lesson my father taught me is that wellness rarely comes from one dramatic decision.

More often, it comes from small habits practiced consistently over time.

A walk.

A healthy meal.

Time outdoors.

A good night's sleep.

A daily serving of ginger.

Those habits may seem simple, but they add up.
