It Might Be More Expensive Not to Buy It
When I was young, I remember asking my father, Frank "Jake" Jacobson, whether I should buy a camping tent that seemed far too expensive for my budget.
He listened for a moment and then replied with words I've never forgotten:
"It might be more expensive not to buy it."
At first, I wasn't sure what he meant.
Then he explained.
A cheaper tent might save money today, but what happens when you're camping in a driving rainstorm with strong winds and your tent fails? Sometimes the better value isn't the lowest price. Sometimes it's the product that continues to perform year after year.
I bought that tent nearly forty years ago.
Two years ago, my wife Ann Marie and I were camping on Stockton Island in Wisconsin's Apostle Islands when a powerful storm rolled in. Wind gusts approached 35 knots, rain poured down, and that same tent stood strong through it all.
In the end, my father's advice proved true.
The more expensive tent became the less expensive choice
Lessons That Last a Lifetime
Over the years, I've found myself repeating my father's wisdom to my wife, daughters, friends, and now even my grandchildren.
"Well, girls, it might be more expensive not to buy it."
The lesson applies to far more than tents.
It applies to health.
It applies to relationships.
It applies to the choices we make every day.
Sometimes investing a little more upfront saves us far more down the road.
The Inspiration Behind Jake's StrongGinger
My father, Frank "Jake" Jacobson, was a remarkable man.
He grew up on a Wisconsin farm during the Great Depression, served as a paratrooper, traveled the world, and never lost his curiosity about people, places, and natural wellness traditions.
He was rarely seen without his wide-brimmed straw hat, black polo shirt, khaki pants, and well-worn Clark shoes.
Friends knew him for his kindness, generosity, practical wisdom, and adventurous spirit.
He was also a longtime believer in ginger.
Long before ginger became popular, Jake appreciated its role in traditional wellness practices and often incorporated it into his daily routine.
Years later, when I created Jake's StrongGinger, I realized I was carrying forward many of the lessons he taught me.
Choose quality.
Stay curious.
Take care of your health.
Invest in things that matter
Why Quality Ingredients Matter
The same principle applies to organic ginger juice.
There are less expensive alternatives available. Many contain added sugars, preservatives, concentrates, artificial ingredients, or shortcuts that lower costs.
At Jake's StrongGinger, we've chosen a different path.
We use USDA Organic Peruvian ginger, whole organic lemons, purified water, and our traditional steeping process because we believe quality matters.
Could we cut corners?
Of course.
But as my father taught me, sometimes it's more expensive not to.
Investing in Your Future Self
Good health is rarely built through dramatic changes.
More often, it's built through small daily choices that compound over time.
A walk instead of another hour on the couch.
A good night's sleep.
Time outdoors.
A healthy meal.
A daily wellness habit.
For many of our customers, a glass of Jake's StrongGinger has become one of those simple habits.
Not because it's trendy.
Because consistency matters.
And because the choices we make today often determine how we feel tomorrow.
The Bottom Line
My father gave me many gifts.
Some were tangible.
Most were lessons.
Among the most valuable was this simple reminder:
"It might be more expensive not to buy it."
So the next time you enjoy a bottle of Jake's StrongGinger, I hope you'll think about the long-term value of investing in your health, your relationships, and the habits that help you live well.
Your future self may thank you for it.
To Your Health,
Tryg "Jake" Jacobson
